Sunland Real Estate
Sunland, California (CA)

Sunland is located in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, about 14 miles north of Los Angeles. Generally thought to be a part of the San Fernando Valley, the city is actually located in a valley of its own. Sunland is best known around the world as the place where E.T. was filmed.

Sunland, Calif., stood out enough to be the inspiration for neighborhoods used in Steven Spielberg’s blockbuster, E.T. This allows the area to offer potential Sunland real estate buyers some great opportunities.

Sunland Real Estate

Sunland - the name says it all. Located just 14 miles from downtown Los Angeles, this beautiful town has much to offer homebuyers. Its location allows for easy access to the greater Los Angeles area. And just over the bordering San Gabriel Mountains lies the storied Mojave Desert.

As its name suggests, the weather may be Sunland’s greatest asset. The thermometer rarely dips below 50 degrees and precipitation levels are lower than the national average. Those interested in Sunland real estate should be ready for beautiful weather, few rainy days, and non-existent humidity.

Although once composed almost solely of ranches and orchards, Sunland has experienced some unprecedented growth over the last 50 years. Sunland real estate now consists primarily of single-family homes, low-rise apartment buildings and condominiums. Remnants of orchards and ranches are still very prevalent, and their greenery really masks the close proximity to a major metropolitan area.

The proximity to the City of Angels not only allows residents of Sunland to have access to its municipal privileges – such as great public works, city planning committees and a say in Los Angeles political matters – but also provides some commercial benefits. Sunland real estate is so beautiful that Director Steven Spielberg decided to film one of his most popular films, E.T., in the area. The home used in the film still stands and can be seen easily by passersby. This invites many visitors and some tourists interested to see where the now-iconic movie was shot.

The San Gabriel Mountain Range separates the community from the desert and provides some breathtaking vistas, especially at sundown. Hikers or outdoor enthusiasts will love an evening stroll through the many mountain passes. Also, separating the community from Burbank, Glendale and the rest of Los Angeles, are the Verdugo Mountains. Though often confused as being part of the San Fernando Valley, Sundale real estate is actually located in the tiny, lesser known, Tujunga Valley. The valley is only six miles long and two miles wide, ultimately opening into the northernmost edge of the popular San Fernando Valley.

Sunland real estate consumers consist mainly of young professionals working in and around the Los Angeles area. However, the community has been on a steady upswing over the past decade, and many more people are deciding to buy Sunland real estate and establish their home in the cozy valley community.
